Money Save – Bag of Crap

I have a great goofy friend from kindergarten, who exchanges crappy gifts with for occasions. The gifts are freebies picked up overtime, re-gifted objects, Ebay failed to sell, and odd inherited objects. It is really a great idea because it helps reduce waste, rejects consumerism, makes gift giving easy, and is fun. The objects can be hysterically funny (Viagra clock). They can be re-gifted items looking for a home. Normally at the end of the exchange everyone feels like it was fun, and might have gotten one item of actual use out of the whole thing.

If I were to start this with other friends, I would pick an easy going friend and go for it, but be sure to include a check. Why a check? Because that is really what everyone wants any way so just do it. Grab the junk you should have thrown out, the crap that did not sell, and the out of date technology. Throw it in a brown paper bag for bonus points. Add a card to hold the check, but not a card that goes with the occasion one that clearly does not. Smile and go to the party. Smile because you know that your present will be the one talked about, and you did it so easy so fast with little thought. Great way to meet new people because everyone will wonder what the inside joke was of all the items – even when there is none.

Overall, giving a bag of crap can be fun if the recipient is in on the joke normally including a check smooths over any hurt feelings of opening a Viagra clock in front of all the guests.

Do you have a friend to give crap to? What crap would you put in a bag?
